Machakos University 3rd Fashion and Culture Week: A Dazzling Celebration of Heritage and Creativity

Machakos University came alive with color, creativity, and cultural pride during the 3rd edition of the Fashion and Cultural Week, held on 3rd and 4th April 2025 at the ADB Block, School of Engineering and Technology Building. Themed “Celebrating Our Culture Through Fashion,” the event was a vibrant display of talent, tradition, and innovation, bringing together students, staff, and guests in a shared appreciation of heritage and artistic expression.

The two-day extravaganza featured an exciting lineup of activities, including fashion showcases, culinary exhibitions, and cultural performances that highlighted the university’s rich diversity.

Day 1: Fashion Day – Thursday, 3rd April 2025

Fashion enthusiasts were treated to an impressive runway experience that demonstrated the transformative power of style under the sub-theme “Metamorphosis.” Student designers and models showcased:

  • Ethnic Wear – A tribute to traditional garments from various communities, celebrating Kenya’s and Africa’s cultural wealth.
  • Cocktail Wear – Elegant evening wear embodying sophistication and flair.
  • Avant-Garde Fashion – Experimental and futuristic designs that pushed creative boundaries.

Culinary exhibitions also featured on day one.

Day 2: Cultural Showcase – Friday, 4th April 2025

The second day was a lively celebration of music, dance, and performance, showcasing the beauty and diversity of Kenyan and global cultures. The program included:

  • Traditional Dance Performances – Captivating solo and group acts that energized the crowd.
  • Performance Judging – A platform to recognize and reward outstanding cultural presentations and expressions.
