Machakos University Students Among Top Winners at Huawei ICT Nationals Competition 2025

Machakos University continues to make strides in ICT excellence, with five of its students emerging among the top performers in the Huawei ICT Competition 2025 Kenya National Awards held at Glee Hotel, Nairobi. The event recognized outstanding students in Computing, Networking, and Cloud technologies, celebrating their achievements and technical expertise.

The awarding ceremony was graced by the Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Education, Mr. Julius Migos Ogamba, who commended Huawei Technologies for its dedication to enhancing digital skills among university students. The CS emphasized the role of ICT in fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth.
Machakos University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joyce Agalo, was in attendance to support and celebrate the University’s victorious team.
The following students from Machakos University were recognized as top performers in Kenya and have qualified for the Regional Sub-Saharan Africa Finals in South Africa, scheduled for 2nd – 5th April 2025:
- Mark Omaiko – Computing Track
- Ian Omwenga– Computing Track
- Brian Kipkoech– Network Track
- Harriet Wambura– Cloud Track
- Leona Nyasani – Computing Track
In addition, Mr. Franklin Mutisya, trainer and facilitator from Machakos University received the Outstanding Instructor Award for his exceptional dedication to mentoring and training students, ensuring their success in the competition. Mr. Mutisya will accompany the students to South Africa for the Regional Finals.


The Huawei ICT Competition, organized by Huawei Technologies Kenya, aims to equip students with advanced ICT skills, bridging the gap between academic learning and industry requirements. The Regional Finals in South Africa will provide students with an opportunity to compete on an international stage, gain exposure to cutting-edge technologies, and showcase their expertise.
This achievement highlights the dedication and technical proficiency of Machakos University students.
