Welcome to the Directorate of TVET. The Directorate was established in 2018 in order to continue the rich legacy of Machakos Technical Training Institute the predecessor of Machakos University. The Directorate has three sections namely: Business Studies, Engineering & Technology and Institutional Management.

Our directorate is fully registered by TVETA to offer twelve diploma programmes and also as an examination center by KNEC. Our courses are practical based and are offered physically in the University in order to impart the relevant knowledge, skills, competences and attitudes to our students. We boost of a vibrant alumnus who are positively impacting the world of work both nationally and internationally. Our courses are in line with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

Overview Of The Department

Welcome to Institutional Management department which offers Diploma courses. The department has provided trainees an advantage in the labor market over the years by providing them with information and skills. Because of the Institutional Management Section’s graduates’ mastery of the abilities they learned throughout training, they are highly sought after. Our commitment lies in equipping trainees with the necessary abilities, expertise, and mindset to function effectively in the hospitality and fashion design sectors. In addition, trainees have the opportunity to work in the industry for three months (as an attachment) under the guidance of the industry and the institution during their training. The department supports trainees aspirations and helps them reach their goals by providing a dynamic learning environment. We promise to deliver high quality training which produces graduates with the relevant knowledge, skills and attitudes for the global economy and self-reliance. Our goal is to deliver.

 Admissions

Admission for new students is done in September every year.

 Diploma Courses

All diploma courses are offered on modular basis with a total of three modules.  The trainee is required to sit for the KNEC examinations at the end of each module.

Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Mean grade C- (minus) or its equivalent craft certificate

Overview Of The Department

Welcome to the Department Of Business Studies. The department is mandated to train students in business studies and to offer manpower training for the business market. The department offers courses that are tailor-made to meet current market demands. Our students are trained by highly qualified and dedicated trainers who have attained high levels of academic excellence. Our trainers utilize modern teaching methods that integrate Information and Communication Technology in their training. Our graduates meet the market demand and thus highly absorbed in the business industry.

Our trainees are given chance to practice their skills as they attend industrial attachment after completion of their First Year and Second Year Modules for a period of three (3) months consecutively.

Entry Requirements

The minimum entry requirements for the new students is KCSE Certificate, a Mean Grade of C- (Minus) or its equivalent in Craft Certificate having excelled in Module 1 and Module 2 KNEC Examinations.

COURSES OFFERED

  2. Diploma in building and construction technology

  4. Diploma in electrical and electronics engineering (power option)
  5. Diploma in mechanical engineering (production option)
  6. Diploma in mechanical engineering (plant option)

The department is run by qualified trainers and technicians in respective courses.

Objectives

The minimum entry requirement for the above diploma courses is a mean grade of C- (minus. The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) is the examining body. Our intake is normally in September every year.

Overview Of The Department

Industrial attachment is the practical component of any course, which a trainee is required to undergo in a real working environment to satisfy the requirements of the course.

As a National Training Policy, students taking the courses in the Directorate have to undergo two industrial work experience attachment before their final module examinations. The cardinal rule is that students proceeding on attachment must have acquired sufficient skills to make them productive at the work place.

Objective of Industrial Attachment

The purpose of industrial work experience attachment programme is to try as much as possible to make the training relevant to the job requirement in the industry.

This is achieved by:

  1. Exposing students to industrial work culture through the actual involvement in real work environment
  2. Providing opportunities for students to apply the skills acquired through formal instructions in real work situations.
  3. Exposing students to technologies which are not available in the University.
  4. Building Confidence in the students in technical operations and problem solving through working with professionals in the world of work.
