Machakos University Hosts The 7th Innovation, Exhibition, and Medical Camp Week

Machakos University is renowned for its commitment to fostering innovation among its students. The institution hosted an annual Innovation and Exhibition Week between 12th and 14th March, 2025 with the theme “Innovation for Sustainable Development and Healthy Futures,”. The event served as a platform for innovators and exhibitors to showcase innovative projects and ideas. The event was a testament to the University’s dedication to nurturing a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among its students.

The event featured six sub-themes that guided participants in developing innovative solutions:

  • Innovation for Provision of Universal Healthcare
  • Innovation for Housing and Infrastructure
  • Innovation for Agricultural Extension and Food Security
  • Innovation for Climate Action and Renewable Energy
  • Innovation for Industrialization, Manufacturing, and SMEs
  • Blue Economy and Digitization

Opening Ceremony

The event was graced by the Vice Chancellor of Machakos University, Prof. Joyce Agalo, who delivered her welcoming remarks about the trajectory that the university is taking and officially inaugurated the exhibition. The Chief Guest, Dr. Aghan Joshua Oscar, joined the University Management in touring exhibition booths, where they were able to interact with student innovators and exhibitors, gaining firsthand insights into their creative solutions.

Showcasing Innovation and Talent

A wide array of activities featured, aimed at promoting creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration among the innovators. Some of the key activities that took place during the event included:

Project Exhibitions where Innovators had the opportunity to showcase innovative projects, ranging from engineering prototypes to scientific research findings.

Participating Institutions

The event attracted participation from a diverse range of institutions, including representatives from High school students from KUCCPS, Konza Technopolis, Ajira, Machakos Technical Institute of the Blind, Machakos Boys, Machakos Girls, Vyula Girls High School, and Katheka Kai High School, local exhibitors and innovators from the University. The collaborative nature of the event facilitated knowledge sharing and cross-pollination of ideas among the participants.

The presence of multiple institutions added a significant value to the event by providing attendees with exposure to different perspectives, industry best practices, and potential career pathways. It also created a conducive environment for fostering partnerships between academia and industry, ultimately contributing to the advancement of innovation and technology transfer.

High school students had an opportunity to tour the university, visiting key facilities such as the Luban Workshop, Jitume Lab, and the University Library.

Closing Ceremony

The exhibits were assessed by a panel of judges who evaluated their impact, creativity, and alignment with the event’s theme.

The event concluded with the announcement of the judges’ adjudication results, followed by the Presentation of Prizes to outstanding innovators. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joyce Agalo, delivered her closing remarks, emphasizing the role of innovation in shaping sustainable futures and urging students to continue pushing the boundaries of creativity and research.
