Student Association of Machakos University Induction

Machakos University held an induction ceremony on 18th and 19th July, 2024 of the elected student leaders of the Student Association of Machakos University (SAMU). The two-day event, held at the University Hotel and conference center Iluvya Hall, aimed to enhance leadership skills among the emerging leaders, equipping them with the essential knowledge, attitude, and values required for their effective leadership.

The induction program was designed to cover a wide array of topics, ensuring that the student leaders are well-prepared to take on the roles with confidence and integrity.

Highlights of the program include:

  • Keynote Address & Official Opening of the Event was conducted by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Joyce Agalo who inaugurated the induction with an inspiring keynote address, emphasizing the importance of leadership and the vital role student leaders play in shaping the future of Machakos University.
  • The Guest Speaker presented on Transformative Leadership delving into principles of transformative leadership, encouraging the student leaders to be visionary, innovative and inclusive in their approach.
  • The University Dean of Students presented on Student governance structure and provided a comprehensive overview outlining the roles and responsibilities of student leaders within this framework.
  • Financial Planning and Budget Making presented by the Ag. Chief Finance Officer (CFO) highlighted the fundamentals of financial planning and budget management crucial for effective leadership.
  • Procurement Process presented by Chief Procurement Officer (CPO) highlighted the university’s procurement processes, ensuring that student leaders are well-versed in the principles of transparency and accountability in requisition of various goods and services.
  • The University Legal Officer made a presentation on Legal Affairs matters including students’ rights and responsibilities and accountability.
  • Security Matters in the University was presented by the Director of Security Services and highlighted topics on safety and security of the university community both internal and external and how student leaders can contribute to a safe campus environment.

The Dean of Students concluded the induction ceremony with closing remarks and a vote of thanks reinforcing the significance of the knowledge imparted and encouraging the student leaders to implement these learnings in their tenure.
