The Outgoing Samu Leadership Supports University Cre`che Initiative With Generous Donation

The outgoing leadership of the Student Association of Machakos University (SAMU), led by former President Emmanuel Yogo and Deputy President Harriet Amache, made a significant contribution to the University Crèche initiative on 18^th March, 2025, after donating items which included beds, toys, cabinet fixtures, and carpets, aimed at enhancing the facility’s resources and creating a comfortable, child-friendly environment.

The University’s Crèche project was established by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joyce Agalo, to support female students and staff in need of childcare assistance while attending to their academic and professional responsibilities. Prof. Agalo has been a strong champion for a safe, nurturing, and well-equipped space for young children to enable mothers to focus on their studies or work without worry.

The inspiration for the Crèche was sparked by a heartwarming gesture by a lecturer from the School of Business, whose photo went viral after she was seen assisting a young mother in an exam room by carrying the student’s baby on her back. This act of kindness highlighted the need for dedicated childcare support, a matter that the Vice Chancellor quickly took over.

The donation by SAMU was officially received by the Vice chancellor, who was accompanied by some members of the University Management team. During the handover ceremony, the Alumni Chairperson, Ms. Mary Mutula, commended the initiative and reaffirmed the Alumni Executive Committee’s dedication to supporting the project. She further pledged that the association would support the donation as part of their continued efforts to contribute to the university’s development.
