Machakos University is set to host its 3rd Environmental Cleaning Day on Friday, 21st February 2025, from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. This event underscores the university’s commitment to environmental sustainability and community service.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Division of Research, Innovation and Linkages together with the School of Agriculture, Environment and Health Sciences aims to enhance cleanliness within and around the University while promoting awareness of environmental conservation. Participants will engage in cleaning various areas within the university premises and neighboring community spaces to foster a cleaner and healthier environment.
The University will partner with the following stakeholders to promote community engagement and inclusivity, Machakos County Commissioner, Department of Housing and Urban Development, Machakos Solid Waste Directorate, Department of Water, Irrigation and Sanitation, Department of Public Health, INADES Formation Kenya, among others.
The Environmental Cleaning Day aligns with Machakos University’s broader agenda of sustainability, Community service and corporate social responsibility. It presents an opportunity for participants to work together in making a tangible impact while instilling values of teamwork and collective responsibility.
All students, faculty, staff, and members of the surrounding community are invited to take part in this noble exercise. Participants will be provided by cleaning tools while also encouraged to wear appropriate cleaning attire.
The primary focus of this event will be the collection and disposal of solid waste, which is essential for promoting public health. Improper solid waste management can lead to the spread of diseases, contamination of water sources, and air pollution. By eliminating waste buildup, we reduce the breeding grounds for disease-causing vectors such as mosquitoes and rodents, thereby lowering the risk of infections like malaria, cholera, and respiratory illnesses. Additionally, proper waste disposal helps mitigate environmental hazards, ensuring a safer and healthier community for all.
Let us come together and make a difference. Join us in making Machakos University and surrounding estates cleaner, greener, and healthier place for all!
