The Machakos University Management Board (UMB), in collaboration with the Change Management Committee (CMC), Change Management facilitators, and key University staff, participated in a mid-term Key Performance Indicators (KPI) review and team-building activity aimed at enhancing institutional effectiveness, teamwork, and service delivery.
The session brought together members of the University leadership to reflect on performance milestones, assess progress made in the Financial Year, and identify strategies for improved efficiency and accountability.
During the KPI review session, members evaluated divisional targets, discussed achievements, challenges and explored practical approaches to strengthen operational effectiveness. The review underscored the University’s commitment to performance-based management, transparency and continuous improvement in service delivery.
Speaking during the session, the Vice-Chancellor Professor Joyce Agalo urged members to remain committed to their roles, uphold integrity, and maintain honesty in the execution of their duties. She emphasized that institutional excellence depends on transparency, accountability and dedication to service.
In reinforcing the review outcomes, CPA Moses Mwariri emphasized the importance of aligning personal and divisional change goals with institutional responsibilities to strengthen accountability and service delivery. He encouraged staff to assess their readiness for change by identifying operational and structural barriers that may hinder progress, while developing action plans with measurable targets to enhance prudent resource utilization and value for money.
He further noted that collaborative engagement enables teams to refine strategies and build sustainable systems that support long-term institutional transformation and efficiency.
Complementing the review, the team-building exercise provided an opportunity for members to strengthen collaboration, enhance communication and foster a shared sense of purpose. The outdoor setting encouraged resilience, teamwork and problem-solving values essential for effective leadership and institutional growth.
The initiative reflects Machakos University’s dedication to cultivating a results-oriented culture while promoting staff wellness and cohesion. By integrating performance review with team development, the University continues to strengthen its governance structures and enhance service delivery to students, staff and stakeholders. The University remains committed to continuous improvement, strategic leadership and fostering a collaborative work environment that supports innovation, accountability and excellence.
