Machakos University Engages Community on Proposed Smart TVET Building

On Tuesday, 9th June 2026, Machakos University conducted a public participation exercise on the proposed construction of a modern three-storey Smart TVET Building, a landmark project set to transform technical and vocational training, expand learning opportunities, and increase student capacity.
The engagement brought together university staff led by Mr. Danson Mbindyo, Deputy Director of the TVET Directorate, Mr. Emmanuel Kipkemboi, Environmental Officer and Safaricom PLC consultant, local residents led by Kiimwa-Kiimwe Area Chief Mr. Muli Mutua, community representatives, and other stakeholders.


During the session, Mr. Kipkemboi outlined the project’s anticipated benefits, potential environmental and social impacts, and the mitigation measures put in place by the M-PESA Foundation and the contractor to ensure responsible and sustainable implementation.
Stakeholders were assured that the project would prioritize environmental conservation, safeguard community interests, create employment opportunities, stimulate local economic growth, and provide a world-class learning environment for future TVET students.
The proposed Smart TVET Building represents another major milestone in Machakos University’s commitment to innovation, skills development, sustainable growth, and meaningful community engagement.
