Responsibilities:
1. Employs Staff and recommends the appointment of the Vice-chancellor
2. Manages University according to the Statutes
3. Approves and publishes the Statutes
4. Approves University Policies
5. Approves University Budget
6. Plays an oversight role on the University assets.
7. Performs any other responsibilities set out in the Universities Act 2012 and the Charter.

Chaiman of Council
Dr. Peter Maangi Mitiambo is a long-serving and skilled management consultant, trainer, lecturer and researcher with working experience in over 20 countries in Africa, serving the public and private sectors as well as NGO client organizations. A member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants, he has also had a successful career, managing finances of a bank, a University and an international organization.
MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL
CPA Felix is a full member of Kenya institute of management (MKIM), Africa tax and Research Network (ATRN)scientific committee and the institute of certified public accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) in good standing with 26 years post qualifying experience in accountancy and financial management.
CS. Dr. Mercy Kanyara is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a Commissioner For Oaths. She is also a Professional Certified Mediator (CPM) -MTI, a Certified Public Secretary (CS)( – ICPSK, a Humanitarian Chaplain, a Pastor and an Entrepreneur in real estate and hotel industry. She is a practicing advocate with M. N. Kanyara & Company Advocates. She is also a motivational speaker, Counsellor, Women Leader and a lecturer.

George Mbaabu Marete
George Mbaabu Marete is a results-driven procurement professional in the procurement and supply chain industry, holding a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree and a professional certification from the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS). He brings strong expertise in strategic sourcing, contract management, and supply chain optimization, combining solid academic knowledge with practical experience to effectively manage complex procurement processes and deliver value-driven results.

Hon. Ibrahim Abdi Mude
Hon. Ibrahim Abdi Mude is a seasoned expert in strategic management, governance, and public service with over 40 years of leadership experience. His career highlights robust skills in policy formulation, health program oversight, legislative work, and financial resource management across government, NGOs, and private sectors.
Mr. Davis Thuo is a seasoned agricultural research, production, and sustainability expert with over 30 years’ experience in large-scale agricultural systems, research and development, and agribusiness leadership.
He holds a Bachelor of Science (Botany and Zoology) from the University of Nairobi and a Master of Science in Technology for Crop Protection from the University of Reading, United Kingdom. He has also undertaken several professional courses in postharvest technology, integrated pest management, sustainable agriculture, pesticide stewardship, and management.
Prof. Joyce J. Agalo is the Vice Chancellor of Machakos University and the Secretary to the Council.
She is a Professor of Education and an Instructional Designer with over 25 years’ experience in academic, research, and supervision of both undergraduate and postgraduate students. She holds a B.Ed. from Kenyatta University, an M. Lib. (Media Technology) from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, United Kingdom and a Ph.D. (Educational Communication and Technology) from Moi University, having undertaken part of her research at the FerUniversitat in Hagen, Germany.
