Machakos University has taken a major step towards enhancing competency-based technical education through the acquisition and installation of a modern steam boiler for engineering training under the TVET Engineering Directorate.
The state-of-the-art equipment will provide students with invaluable hands-on experience in steam generation systems, industrial plant operations, thermodynamics, heat transfer, instrumentation, energy management, and boiler maintenance. This investment reinforces the University’s commitment to producing highly skilled graduates equipped with practical competencies that meet industry demands.

The steam boiler bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world industrial applications, enabling trainees to gain direct exposure to modern engineering technologies and operational procedures. Through practical sessions, students will develop critical technical skills in operating, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining industrial steam systems.
Beyond training, the facility will serve as a platform for research, innovation, demonstrations, and industry collaboration, further strengthening Machakos University’s position as a leader in technical and vocational education.
Speaking on the acquisition, the TVET Engineering Directorate noted that the steam boiler will significantly improve learning outcomes, enhance graduate employability, and support the University’s mission of nurturing competent professionals capable of driving industrial growth and technological advancement.
The installation of the steam boiler marks another milestone in Machakos University’s continuous investment in modern training infrastructure aimed at empowering students with industry-relevant skills for the future workforce.
