TVET Fashion Design Students Complete Transformative Industrial Tour to the Coast
Machakos University TVET Fashion Design second- and third-year students, accompanied by their trainers Ms. Esther Kituku and Ms. Betsy Nzuki, undertook an enriching industrial educational tour of leading apparel manufacturing industries in Mombasa and Kilifi counties from 22nd to 26th June 2026. The team visited Simba Apparels (Changamwe), Ashton Apparels (Kilifi), and Mega Coutre Apparels (Kikambala), where they gained practical exposure to modern garment production processes, including fabric cutting, assembly, quality control, warehousing, and dispatch.
Students witnessed cutting-edge garment-laying and cutting technologies and learned about global apparel production and export standards, with products destined for international markets. The visits also opened doors to attachment and employment opportunities, while Human Resource teams provided valuable career guidance and professional insights.
The educational tour also included visits to iconic attractions such as the Likoni Ferry, Mama Ngina Waterfront, Pembe za Ndovu, and Pirates Beach, offering students a memorable experience of Mombasa’s rich heritage and the Indian Ocean.
The students returned inspired, equipped with valuable industry knowledge and practical skills to enhance their professional growth. They expressed their sincere appreciation to the Machakos University Administration and the TVET Directorate for facilitating this transformative learning experience and for their continued commitment to providing industry-oriented training and exposure.
