
Mr. Davis Thuo is a seasoned agricultural research, production, and sustainability expert with over 30 years’ experience in large-scale agricultural systems, research and development, and agribusiness leadership.
He holds a Bachelor of Science (Botany and Zoology) from the University of Nairobi and a Master of Science in Technology for Crop Protection from the University of Reading, United Kingdom. He has also undertaken several professional courses in postharvest technology, integrated pest management, sustainable agriculture, pesticide stewardship, and management.
Mr. Thuo has had a distinguished career with Del Monte Kenya Ltd, where he served for over two decades in senior leadership roles, including Head of Research and Development. He is widely recognized for spearheading productivity improvements and the successful commercialization of the MD2 (Del Monte Gold) pineapple variety, reinforcing Kenya’s position in global pineapple markets. His work has involved extensive engagement with international agricultural standards, regulatory compliance, and sustainability certification systems.
Earlier in his career, he worked as a Research Officer (Plant Pathology) at the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (now KALRO), where he contributed to an award-winning FAO project on Asian vegetable production that received the Edward Saouma Award.
Currently, Mr. Thuo serves as a Senior Agricultural Consultant and Entrepreneur, advising local and international agribusinesses on sustainable production systems, crop research, and agribusiness development. He has also served on several Boards of Management for educational institutions and actively participates in church and community governance.
He brings to the University Council deep expertise in strategic management, agricultural innovation, sustainability, research governance, and institutional leadership.
