Machakos University Hosts the Great East Africa Cyclists (GACS) on Day 13 of Historic 55-Day EAC Cycling Expedition

Machakos University proudly hosted the Great East Africa Cyclists (GACS) on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, during Day 13 of their historic 55-day cycling expedition across five East African Community (EAC) countries- Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Burundi. The expedition runs from 12 August to 8 October 2026, bringing together a 35-member team of cyclists aged between 18 and 61 years.
The team was received by the Registrar, Research, Innovation and Linkages, Prof. David Mulwa, on behalf of the University. A major highlight of the visit was “A Tree of Integration” tree-planting exercise, which brought together Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joyce Agalo, Members of the University Council,University Management, staff, and members of GACS. The initiative symbolized regional unity, environmental stewardship and a shared commitment to a sustainable East Africa.
The University also launched the EAC Integration Club, further demonstrating Machakos University’s commitment to regional integration, environmental conservation, youth engagement and sustainable development. Prof. Agalo commended GACS for using cycling as a powerful platform to champion EAC integration, unity and improved livelihoods, while CPA Felix Kilonzi, on behalf of the University Council, applauded the cyclists for their inspiring regional initiative.
The Vice-Chancellor later flagged off the cyclists as they continued their journey to Arusha, Tanzania, handing over 100 bottles of Macha Drips drinking water to support them along the way.
