Machakos University and National Housing Corporation Forge Strategic Partnership for a Landmark 5-Storey Convention Centre

Machakos University has taken a major step towards transforming its physical infrastructure following a high-level consultative meeting with the National Housing Corporation (NHC) to explore a strategic partnership for the development of a modern 5-storey Convention Centre.

The courtesy meeting officially marked the beginning of discussions on the proposed project, bringing together the University’s Management and the National Housing Corporation’s technical team to deliberate on the project’s conceptual framework, implementation strategy, and collaborative processes. As part of the initial planning phase, the team also conducted a preliminary assessment of the proposed project site.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joyce Agalo, was Prof. Mugendi M’Rithaa, alongside the Registrar, Academics and Student Affairs, Mr. Patrick Okemba, who participated in the discussions. The National Housing Corporation delegation was led by Mr. Phillip Bet, Ag. Manager, Partnerships and Resource Mobilization.

The proposed Convention Centre is envisioned as a flagship facility that will provide a vibrant platform for innovation, research dissemination, exhibitions, entrepreneurship, and academic engagement. Upon completion, the state-of-the-art facility is expected to significantly enhance the University’s capacity to showcase groundbreaking research and innovations, host national and international conferences and exhibitions, and strengthen collaboration among academia, industry, government, development partners, and the wider community.

The engagement reaffirmed Machakos University’s commitment to investing in modern infrastructure that supports quality teaching, learning, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship while creating an environment that nurtures creativity, collaboration, and knowledge exchange.

The discussions also reflected the shared commitment between Machakos University and the National Housing Corporation to delivering sustainable, high-impact infrastructure aligned with the University’s Strategic Plan and Kenya’s national development agenda.

The consultative meeting laid a strong foundation for the partnership, with both institutions expressing confidence in the collaborative process that will guide the project’s subsequent planning, design, and implementation phases. Once realized, the Convention Centre is expected to become one of Machakos University’s flagship infrastructure developments, reinforcing the University’s position as a leading centre for innovation, research excellence, and transformative learning.
