Webometric ranking among-st Universities provide a platform in which Universities worldwide are ranked on specific indicators of presence, visibility, transparency and scholarly excellence including activity measures.

During the January 2020 release, Machakos University moved from position 31 to 16 out of 132 Institutions ranked in Kenya, with improvement in global ranking indicators standing at 824 for presence, 12,272 for Impact, 3495 for Openness (transparency) and 6084 for Excellence.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, this performance is an indication that the University is making progress towards the set target. She noted that the improvement is attributed to the culture of openness adopted by University, among-st others.
