SAMU SWEARING IN CEREMONY 2026

Machakos University marked a significant milestone on 1st April 2026 with the successful swearing-in of the Student Association of Machakos University (SAMU) Governing Council Elect for the year 2026. The ceremony, presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joyce J. Agalo, brought together members of the University Management, staff, outgoing and incoming student leaders, and distinguished guests.

In her address, the Vice-Chancellor commended the Electoral Commission, stakeholders, and the entire student body for conducting a credible and transparent election. She noted that the impressive voter turnout of 5,102 votes, representing 82.87% of registered voters, is a strong indication of growing confidence in student leadership and governance within the University.

The ceremony symbolized not only a transition of leadership but also a renewed commitment to service, responsibility, and purposeful engagement. The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that leadership within the university context is both a privilege and a profound duty, requiring integrity, accountability and dedication to the welfare of all students.

Congratulating the incoming Governing Council, the Vice Chancellor reminded them that their election reflects the trust and confidence bestowed upon them by their peers. She encouraged them to embrace servant leadership by listening, representing, and acting in the best interests of the student community.

The outgoing SAMU leadership was also recognized for their dedication and contribution to enhancing student life and fostering strong collaboration between students and the University administration. The newly sworn-in leaders were urged to uphold the values of the University, promote unity and inclusivity, work collaboratively with management, and serve as ambassadors of peace, professionalism, and positive change.

To enhance efficiency and strengthen their capacity to serve, the incoming SAMU Governing Council will undergo a comprehensive two-day induction programme. The training will equip them with essential leadership, governance, and communication skills, ensuring they are well-prepared to effectively execute their mandate and deliver on the expectations of the student body.

Machakos University continues to prioritize both academic and leadership excellence, positioning student leaders as key partners in advancing its vision and mission. The Vice-Chancellor concluded by encouraging the new council to approach their roles with courage, humility, and wisdom, and wished them a successful and impactful term in office.
