Machakos University Showcases Student Innovations at the 17th IUCEA Conference

Machakos University participated in the 17th Inter-University Council for East Africa (IUCEA) Conference held at the Argyle Grand Hotel under the theme, “Powering the Future of Higher Education in East Africa through Strategic Partnerships and Collaborations.” The University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Joyce J. Agalo, attended the conference alongside staff and students who exhibited innovative projects, demonstrating the institution’s commitment to research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
The conference brought together delegates from East African Community member states, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, and Somalia, as well as participants from countries such as the United States and South Korea. The forum highlighted the importance of collaboration among governments, universities, industry, and development partners in advancing higher education across the region.
Discussions focused on digital transformation, artificial intelligence, research and innovation, strategic partnerships, and translating dialogue into practical actions that address societal and economic challenges. Key partners represented included Huawei, UNESCO, KENET, Epson, Family Group, and Arizona State University, among others.
A major highlight of the conference was the launch of the Regional AI Network of Universities and the unveiling of the IUCEA Strategic Plan 2026–2031, both aimed at strengthening regional collaboration, enhancing research capacity, and equipping graduates with the knowledge, skills, and competencies required for the future workforce.
The conference reaffirmed the critical role of universities in driving innovation and sustainable development through strategic partnerships. Machakos University’s participation underscores its continued commitment to nurturing innovation, advancing research excellence, and producing graduates capable of addressing local, regional, and global challenges.
