Machakos University Welcomes the Class of 2026/2027

Machakos University came alive on 24 August 2026 as newly admitted first-year students arrived on campus for admission and registration, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in their academic journey. From 7:00 a.m., the University grounds was filled with the energy and anticipation of new beginnings as students, parents, guardians, staff and student leaders gathered for the admission process. With dedicated staff and student leaders on hand, the new students were warmly received and guided through the various stages of registration.

Beyond admission and registration, the University also hosted a parents’ meeting at the Amphitheatre, providing an important opportunity for parents and guardians to engage with university leadership and understand how best to support their students as they transition into university life.
The session, welcomed by Ms. Ruth Munene from the Career Office, featured comprehensive guidance from senior University officials. Dr. James Karau, Dean of Students, officially opened the programme and addressed key areas affecting students’ transition into university life, including course transfers, the orientation process, drug and substance abuse, and the influence of peer pressure. Parents were also reminded that counselling services are available to support students whenever needed. On accommodation, the Registrar highlighted available options, ongoing hostel upgrades and construction developments. Parents were also encouraged to guide their students on responsible financial management.
The discussion further highlighted the importance of academic trips, innovation, stakeholder relations and gaining practical experience alongside academic excellence. CPA Prof. Florence Memba, DVC -APF, emphasized the importance of a strong partnership between parents and University administration in ensuring a smooth transition and supporting students throughout their university journey.
Prof. James Muola, DVC -ASA, gave an overview of the institution’s history and its six Schools. He also addressed key areas including the fee structure and anticipated communication from HEF, different modes of learning, financial management, examinations, academic performance follow-up, University scholarships and other opportunities available to students.

Parents were also informed about the University’s childcare centre (crèche) and encouraged to support their children in participating in sports, clubs and other co-curricular activities. The University further reaffirmed its commitment to handling disciplinary matters with care while maintaining a supportive learning environment. The meeting also provided parents with a direct channel for communication through the Dean of Students’ Office, reinforcing the University’s commitment to keeping parents engaged in their students’ progress and wellbeing.
As the first-years begin settling into their new environment, Machakos University looks forward to seeing them learn, discover, innovate, build lasting relationships and grow into responsible graduates who will make a meaningful impact in society.
