Machakos University Students Return Home After Transformative Erasmus+ International Mobility Programme in Latvia

Machakos University has warmly welcomed home a cohort of students who completed the Erasmus+ International Mobility Programme at Riga Technical University (RTU), Latvia, marking another milestone in the University’s commitment to global academic excellence and internationalization.

The students were officially received on Monday, 6th July 2026, by the Erasmus+ Programme Coordinator, Prof. Stanley Makindi, alongside the Registrar, Academic and Student Affairs, Mr. Patrick Okemba, who congratulated them for successfully completing their semester abroad and applauded them for serving as exemplary ambassadors of Machakos University.

The student exchange programme is implemented under a five-year partnership agreement between Machakos University and Riga Technical University, signed in 2022. Through this collaboration, students from diverse academic disciplines have the opportunity to undertake a semester of study at RTU, gaining world-class academic exposure while experiencing different cultures, perspectives, and global learning environments.

Addressing the returning students, Prof. Makindi emphasized that the Erasmus+ Mobility Programme is a key pillar of the University’s internationalization strategy. He noted that international academic exchanges broaden students’ horizons, strengthen intercultural competencies, enhance academic and professional growth, and prepare graduates to thrive in an increasingly interconnected global economy.

He further commended the students for their outstanding academic performance, discipline, and exemplary conduct throughout their stay in Latvia, noting that they had proudly represented both Machakos University and Kenya on the international stage.
